Energy Saving Tips for Ovens and Stoves.......

Avoid cooking at all – eat raw vegetables whenever possible, or cook minimally to retain nutrients.
Save energy by making sure that appliances function properly, for example, ensure that oven doors seal properly. Keep cooking equipment clean; it will last longer and use less electricity if well maintained.

Follow the manufacturer’s guidelines when it comes to cooking equipment. Learn how to use your oven’s thermostat and timer in order to avoid the continual opening of the oven door while food is cooking. Look for energy star ratings and invest in quality equipment that is more energy efficient. Heavy based pots and pans last longer and retain heat more effectively and evenly, leading to less energy usage.
Heat equipment to the highest temperature needed – do not heat higher to pre-heat quicker or to cook food faster, it will only waste energy.
Draw up a cooking schedule. In this way, your oven can be filled to capacity and time and electricity can be saved.
Harness energy by placing a few bricks or terracotta tiles at the bottom shelf of the oven. The tiles and bricks retain heat which stabilizes the heat inside the oven when opening and closing the door.
When cooking, heat can be switched off early, and the pot/s will finish cooking the meal slowly.
Be sure pots and pans completely cover the stove plates.
Use a pressure cooker to conserve energy when cooking foods that usually take a long time.
Do not use the grilling compartment of an oven to make toast or use an oven to heat the kitchen – this is expensive and wastes energy.
Keep oven doors completely closed until food is cooked. Every time the door is opened, the oven temperature drops, and the heat must be replaced.
Allow free circulation of heat within the oven. Place pans and containers so that they do not touch each other or the sides of the oven.
An indoor fire can do more than heat up the room. Consider cooking a meal at the same time, using a cast iron pot around the edges of the fire. This is also great for toasting bread.
Consider slow cooking with an insulated hotbox. A hotbox is basically a super-insulated container into which a pot is placed, after initially heating up food. Using a hotbox you can boil rice, for example, for just a few minutes and then let the captured heat do the rest over the remainder of the day. A hotbox is cheap and simple to make, using a cardboard box and insulating materials such as towels, paper, straw and/or old bedding.

How Much Electricity Do Appliances Use????

How to maintain your Microwave Oven

How to Clean a Microwave Using Lemon Juice????

  • Use a damp cloth or sponge, moistened by warm water. Wipe the inside walls of the microwave, that  is  the top, bottom and back walls with the cloth.
  • Do not rub or exert a lot of pressure. Just wipe off any crumbs or dirt that are loose.
  • If there are any food particles in the microwave, take them out.
  • Squeeze out 2-3 tablespoons of juice from a lemon.
  • Add lemon juice to a microwave safe bowl and then add 2-3 cups of water.
  • Mix the liquid well and place it in the microwave.
  • Turn the microwave on and keep it on for 2 minutes.
  • The lemon water must boil in the microwave. Keep the bowl in the microwave as long as it takes for the water to boil.
  • Once the timer goes off, do not open the door. Let steam from the water spread in the microwave.
  • Once the steam has condensed and fogged up your microwave, remove the bowl.
  • Stand at least 3 feet away from your microwave, while it is cooling down, because if it gets too hot, the door may burst open and you may get steamed.
  • After 10 minutes, take the bowl out. You can see the grease on the sides of the microwave has turned soft and oily.
  • Use oven mitts to handle the bowl and take it out of the microwave.
  • Use a damp cloth and wipe the greasy sides. If some stains are tough, repeat the procedure to soften the grease.
  • You can take out the glass tray or microwave turntable and wash it separately, then leave it to dry before you fix it back.
  • Using lemon water to clean your microwave not only wears down the grease, it also leaves a nice citrusy and tangy aroma in your machine. It makes a nice change from a stale, greasy smell, which can sometimes be imparted to your food.

How Dishwashers Works ??????

Basically, a dishwasher is a robot that cleans and rinses dirty dishes. Humans have to load the dishes, add detergent, set the proper washing cycles and turn it on, but the dishwasher accomplishes a whole series of functions by itself. A dishwasher:
  • Adds water
  • Heats the water to the appropriate temperature
  • Automatically opens the detergent dispenser at the right time
  • Shoots the water through jets to get the dishes clean
  • Drains the dirty water
  • Sprays more water on the dishes to rinse them
  • Drains itself again
  • Heats the air to dry the dishes off, if the user has selected that setting
In addition, dishwashers monitor themselves to make sure everything is running properly. A timer (or a small computer) regulates the length of each cycle. A sensor detects the water and air temperature to prevent the dishwasher from overheating or damaging your dishes. Another sensor can tell if the water level gets too high and activates the draining function to keep the dishwasher from overflowing. Some dishwashers even have sensors that can detect the dirtiness of the water coming off the dishes. When the water is clear enough, the dishwasher knows the dishes are clean.

How to use cookwares ?????

Before the first use

Clean your new cookware with hot water, a standard detergent and a sponge, cloth or brush. Subsequent drying helps to avoid watermarks.

Clean the cookware directly after use. The remaining heat makes cleaning easier and reduces watermarks.

Please do not use cleaning agents that either scratch or scour. If you clean your uncoated pan with detergent lightly grease the pan before using it again.

Do not fill your cookware with cold water directly after use. The pot may be damaged and cleaning is made harder.

Residue is best removed if you re-heat the pot with water.

Hard water or certain foodstuffs may lead to white or grey residue on the inside of the pot. These can easily be removed with vinegar or citric acid.

Discoloration is triggered by salts or minerals and can easily be removed with a standard stainless steel cleaner. The function of the cookware is not impaired.

Tips for use

Never overheat your cookware. Overheating may lead to discoloration and in extreme cases can damage the base.

If you use a gas cooker, make sure flames do not leak around the base. To avoid injuries always wear an oven glove. Cookware with synthetic handles is not oven safe.

Cookware with stainless steel handles can be used in the oven. Always wear oven gloves as the handles will heat up.

Only fill your cookware up to 70-80% capacity to avoid boiling over and burning.

Only add salt to boiling water and then stir. Adding salt to cold water may lead to discoloration; however this will not impair the function.
